The Almaden Valley Youth Soccer League is committed to improving the youth soccer experience. Our constitution says that we will “provide a framework in which participants can experience the rewards and sacrifices which accompany group activities and to learn the discipline of good sportsmanship”. AVYSL will satisfy this need to maintain and grow this culture by providing the tools and culture of Positive Coaching for parents and coaches to use.

AVYSL is delighted to announce that it has formed a partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). This organization operates out of the Stanford University Athletics Department, and provides training on tools that coaches may use to give their players a positive youth sport experience.   AVYSL is committed to implementing a culture of positive coaching throughout the league. To ensure success, all AVYSL personnel are expected to adopt the culture that will be taught at a special workshop by a PCA trainer. The cooperation and influence of AVYSL parents and coaches is fundamental to the league’s plans to adopt this culture. You don’t want to miss this unique opportunity, provided at no additonal cost to you if you have paid player registration fees or you are a coach registered with the league.

Positive Coaching Workshops
To spread the word and to increase the understanding of Positive Coaching techniques, AVYSL will provide a number of educational workshops, beginning in the spring that may be attended by parents and coaches. The workshops will be provided at no additional charge , providing a parent is already a coach or paying registration fees for one or more players. There will be different workshops for coaches and for parents. Coaches will select “Culture Keepers” to maintain awareness about the principles of Positive coaching on the sidelines at games. “Culture Keepers” will be selected from parents who have attended Positive coaching workshops”

AVYSL will also be holding workshops for team parents. There will be an expectation from team players and parents that coaches will be using the new positive coaching tools. Therefore, it is vital that all AVYSL coaches,assistant coaches and selected " cuture keepers" attend this essential workshop. All other AVYSL parents are strongly encouraged to attend as well.
