PCA Workshop is required to all AVYSL Coaches in all programs. Attendance to the workshop, however, does not need to be taken every year and will be verified if you have taken the workshop in the past.
If you have not attended or will not attend a PCA class for the fall season:
- Rec program - Your coaching volunteer opportunity will be impacted if you have not attended a PCA workshop. The league will take priority over coaches that have attended the free PCA workshop over those that have not. In addition, all team leader volunteers are also required to attend a PCA class.
- Comp/Select program - Your coaching responsibility in the comp/select program will be further reviewed by the board affecting your status to coach your team.
If you have not attended a PCA workshop, you will:
1. Be asked to do non coaching volunteer work such as repair equipment, cut grass or help with administration / player registrations.
2. Not know the fundamental principles of Positive Coaching and you will not be able to provide your player and/or child with the most positive youth sports experience at AVYSL. You will not understand the Positive coaching actions of other AVYSL parents and coaches who will be interacting with.
3. Be at risk of not understanding or following Positive coaching principles when a difficult issue and situation arises on the field of play . If you haven’t been trained and don’t underrstand what to do in a difficult situation, you may choose the wrong response, and this could be contravention of the leagues Positive Coaching culture and sideline policy, and you may be subject to the disciplinary measures of the leagues disciplinary committee, which potentially could involve being asked to leave the league. Please don’t allow your family to get into this situation, please take the training as soon as possible .
3. Miss out on an incredible opportunity provided at no cost to you, to be amongst the best Youth sports parents in the Almaden Valley and thoroughly trained in the techniques of Positive Coaching
