The Age Group Coordinator will verify that you understand all of the game day expecations listed below. It is the Head Coach’s responsibility to make sure that any parent who coaches a game in their absence knows the following.
The desire to win should never cause a coach to ignore a
Game Day Expectation!
1) Game Day Coaching Objectives:
- Fair distribution of playing time.
- Players experiencing different on-field roles/positions.
- Filling all players’ emotional tank (PCA term).
- Facilitating an environment where good sportsmanship is enjoyed by all.
2) Goal Differential Policy:
There will be lopsided games and scores, especially when teams are not well matched on a given day. However, we expect coaches that are involved in lopsided games to communicate with each other and choose appropriate modifications to ensure a positive soccer experience for all players.
U6&U7 –the aim is for both teams to have offensive success. 8 to 3 is a more desirable score than 3 to 0. Please see specific
Appropriate Modifications for details.
U8 and older –Coaches need to make adjustments so that there is a maximum of a 4 goal differential by game’s end. Please see specific
Appropriate Modifications for details.
3) Controlling Sidelines:
We recognize that a volunteer coach can’t always have control of everyone who shows up to watch their team. However, we expect that you will set the appropriate tone for things like celebrating goals and voicing complaints. If you are comfortable please address the person displaying unsportsmanlike behavior on the sideline. If you are not comfortable addressing the person please use league support to address the issue.
Thank you again for your time and effort. We are really looking forward to a great Fall season.
