Head Coach Role
We recognize that our League will only be as good as our Head Coaches. The following are the responsibilities of this role:
1. Attend Coaches’ Meeting:
Head Coaches are required to attend a coaches’ meeting where game day expectations as well as coaching philosphies will be discussed.  The date for this meeting is TBD.  Head coaches need to attend or arrange for another designated team leader from their team to attend to get your uniforms and receive important league information.
2. Have at least 80% Attendance:
A Head Coach’s main responsibility is to run the practices and games. Therefore, the league expects that if you volunteer for this role you will be able to make 80% or more of the games and practices.
3. Complete Background Check / Fingerprint Process (NEW FOR 2013):
All adults selected for an on-field team leadership role need to submit fingerprints through the Capital Live Scan service regardless of whether they have been previously fingerprinted for AVYSL or any other organization.  You will only have to be fingerprinted once.  You must also consent to a one-time CYSA background check. See Coach Application Info page for complete details.
4. Attend Coaches’ Training Sessions:
AVYSL is working on putting together training sessions for new and returning coaches.  In order to prepare yourself for the season, it is expected that you will attend as appropriate.
5. Know and Follow All Game Day Expectations:
These include positive coaching methods, Game Day Coaching objectives, a Goal Differential Policy, and Appropriate Modifications  to be used during lopsided games (more info to follow).
6. Complete Player Evaluations:
All head coaches will complete an evaluation form at the end of the season, giving all players on your team a rating.  These evaluations are important in allowing us to balance teams in future seasons.
