Field Marshal Description of Duties

Field Marshal:

A field marshal is intended to be a visible ‘presence’ on the fields so all AVYSL families will know that the league is observing behavior to ensure everyone ‘honors the game’ and follows PCA guidelines.  AVYSL needs the field marshals to represent the Board of Directors on the fields and be available to respond to inquiries from families or deal with issues. All you really need to do, should any questions arise, is to look at the contact list provided and have the family contact the appropriate Board member, who should respond. You have the field map and game schedule for your information and in case there are other questions. If there is a need for medical or police presence, the emergency and non-emergency contact numbers are included on the contact list, and please also contact the AVYSL President or Vice President immediately if medical or police assistance is requested.

The field marshal should observe and take notes, with as much detail as possible, (1) of individuals (players, coaches, parents, etc.) who are demonstrating excellent sportsmanship or other positive behaviors, or might be exhibiting inappropriate or un-PCA like behavior, or (2) any other issues or concerns of which you become aware.  Each field marshal should put his or her notes into a sealed envelope and leave this envelope in the location’s bag.  These envelopes with field marshal’s notes will be submitted to the PCA Director for review, and are used to credit you for your volunteer hours, so they MUST be completed.  The field marshal is not expected to confront anyone should inappropriate behavior occur, but should provide as much information as possible so the league Board members can take appropriate action, if necessary.

In addition to walking the fields during and between games to observe behavior, if field marshals should observe any litter, please request that it be properly disposed of in a trash container. The trash bags provided in the field marshal bag can be set up in an appropriate location for use by all AVYSL families. At the end of the day, the last field marshal or the field inspector MUST take the trash bag home for disposal, as trash cans at the field locations (if any) generally can’t handle the volume of trash.  If you are the last volunteer for the day, please ensure the trash is disposed of properly and is NOT left at the field location.
